This update from the Urban Land Institute contains several encouraging facts for homebuilders and homebuyers. Employment in Idaho, similar to the rest of the country, is stabilizing and should begin to improve during the remainder of 2010 – hopefully leading to a more dynamic 2011. This is great news for us, because new jobs always mean new homes. Also, inflation remains in check, which reflects our ability to keep construction cost low and the quality of our homes high. The combination of fewer new permits and fewer short sales and foreclosures is making the inventory of available homes more limited. This in turn is creating sales for good homes in good neighborhoods, and is stabilizing the prices of these homes, as seen in the Case – Shiller Index. This is consistent with what we are seeing in our home sales within the last few months.
