I love this stuff — but then, my tastes have always been a bit eclectic! I buy more out of emotion rather than a desire to make everything match.
In doing some research I came across the word “chintz.” This is a word I have not heard much in the last 15 years. I was curious so I did a bit of digging, and discovered that without even knowing it, we have worked this 80’s fabric into our interiors. Its sunny presence shows up in seat cushions, bedspreads, pillows, and even wall art.
Use chintz in the right way (take a look at the photo above) and you can give your rooms a bright, cheerful nudge without calling up memories of “grandma’s house.” You don’t even have to use the old style chintz. There are some wonderful new florals available that aren’t your typical pink or mauve, and I think they can bring character and warmth to any room (check out the photo at left).
After writing this, I think it’s time to change out my own sofa pillows in favor of some fresh new floral! Bring on the chintz!
